The problem

You are about to do business with a company and you need to know if it is real, active, and well run. That means checking Companies House for status and directors, the Gazette for insolvency notices, and HMRC for VAT validity. Three separate systems, and most people skip two of them.

What this skill does

• Company profile: status, incorporation date, registered address, SIC codes
• Filing compliance: are accounts and confirmation statements up to date?
• Directors and officers: who runs it, when were they appointed
• Persons with significant control: who actually owns and controls the company
• Gazette insolvency check: winding-up petitions, striking-off notices
• VAT validation: is the VAT number genuine?
• Charity cross-reference: checks Charity Commission if relevant
• Red flag assessment: patterns that suggest distress or non-compliance
